Information Manager Basic Training introduces participants to the operations of the Freedom of Information Law and at the conclusion of the course participants will have a working knowledge of the purpose and benefits of the FOI Law, its context internationally, and processes for dealing with requests.

At each stage practical exercises and/or case studies are used to involve participants in the actual handling of requests, the application of exemptions and requirements for processing and decision-making. A substantial Guidance Manual, with copies of the legislation, guidance on procedures and exemptions and sample forms and letters, is provided.

Participants will gain and understanding of the application of the FOI Law, including its exemption provisions and how to make decisions on releasing government records.
